Biography
Described as "a laid back, folky solo delight", Grover was born and raised outside of New York City, "out on the Island" as they say, and is an eastern kid with a mid-west heart. Growing up in the 60's, his musical influences were Elvis movies, Bobby Darrin and the Ventures, but it wasn't until he saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan that he wanted to play the guitar. Living through the golden age of the electric guitar, it was at the end of the 60's that Grover traded the electric guitars for two acoustics, a 12 and a 6 six string and pursued the softer side of folk/rock music. It was at this time that Grover rediscovered the great troubadours of the 60's and developed a love for the simplicity of just a guitar and a voice.
The 70's were a new adventure for Grover as he traveled to Ohio. It was in a small town in southeastern Ohio that Grover discovered an attraction to the music of the mountains. Combined with a love for country/rock ( The Byrds, Poco, Gram Parsons) Grover's music found a direction that has stayed with him throughout the years. It was in the early 70's that Grover started writing songs, many he still performs today. Songs with roots to folk, mountain music and a little rock 'n roll.
Fast-forward 35 years and during this time Grover migrated to Kentucky, to the heart of bluegrass country. A long way from New York City and living at a much slower pace, the past 20 years in Kentucky have certainly been an influence to his music.
Grover likes to keep his songs simple, using a unique finger picking style that delivers a flowing, melodic sound to his songs. "The simplicity and clarity (of his songs) combined with amazing hometown lyrics (make for) a wonderful experience". Sometimes referred to as "comfort music", it's laid back; "folky" style brings back memories of the singer/songwriter era of years ago. His lyrics are purposely simple, coming straight from the heart.
Grover performs regularly in the central Kentucky and Southern Ohio region and has appeared on Red Barn Radio, Americana Crossroads public radio and has aired on Barren River Breakdown public radio. Grover has had several of his songs pitched to artists within the music industry, such as Tim McGraw, Kenny Rogers, Trace Adkins, Hank Williams Jr. and George Strait.
